Burning old habits

So as part of my study of Thinking into Results, I have to look at the results and outcomes in my life that I don’t want and correct them accordingly. Two specific things I wanted to change were:

1. I love biscuits. If I were heading to a deserted island, Oreos would probably be first on my essential’s list. Naturally, I have a big sweet-tooth. Thus far that hasn’t served me well.

2. Apart from cycling and dancing, I often can’t be bothered to exercise daily. It’s just not that fun and so I don’t do it.

Reading my old blog posts

I’ve been reading some of the entries from my beginner days on WordPress way back in early 2015. I created my blog to talk about my goals and share my journey with absolutely anyone who’d care to listen!

In my earlier posts I was mostly focussing on getting into drama school and preparing for a solid career as an actor. Four years later, so much has happened in my life and so much has changed: some downs, but many, many, many more ups. Thankfully.

I’m so proud to say that my fighting spirit hasn’t left me. I’m still advancing in my acting career and my self-belief has never been stronger. Continue reading

Waking up at 5:30am

For the last 7 days I’ve been getting up at 5:30am. Yes, that’s right. Half five in the morning. As soon as my alarm rings I get up, switch on the light and shake off any sleepiness.

It hasn’t been easy, that’s for sure, and I know it sounds quite extreme, but I did it because I wanted to see how beneficial it would be and if it could make me more productive. In short, it has. And I would definitely encourage you to give it a try!

Develop A Morning Routine

Until recently I hadn’t realised how vital a morning routine was in creating a positive start to the day and preparing both the mind and body for the activities ahead.

Previously, my morning routine was rather scattered as I wasn’t necessary waking up at the same hour each day, nor was I carrying out precise, well-chosen activities with which to commence the day.

However, now that I need more specificity in my mornings, and to also ensure a better utilisation of my time, I have enforced a concrete routine which I have been following for the last 4-6 weeks.

I’m putting down the drink…

Around two years ago I decided that I was going to completely stop drinking alcohol. Nevertheless, fast forward a few years and I still, unfortunately, haven’t quit.

Today I am making the choice to stop drinking for good; I’m finally putting this decision in writing and sharing it aswell so that it serves as a strong reminder during those moments when I am feeling tempted. Moreover, sharing it in this way means I can be held accountable if I ever derail.

Binge-drinking is dangerous for the health. Fact. It’s harmful for the liver, can cause weight gain, dehydrates the body, causes severe headaches and fatigue and, in the long, can trigger other illnesses such as cancer and heart disease. Secondly, it always gave us a false sense of reality. Being even slightly tipsy brings out our audacious side and so sometimes I personally find myself doing and/or saying things I would later regret the following morning. Thirdly, I knew I was often using alcohol as a crutch; it was a rapid and effortless way to feel more energised, confident and jolly without having to do any work on myself at all. It put me at ease in various situations and it made an evening or night out that much more pleasurable. In fact, to be honest I couldn’t even go to a party or social gathering without getting drunk prior or during the event, and I think I mostly did this out of habit.

I’m on Insta…

I’ve realised that one of my goals of the year – adapt a healthier lifestyle by exercising regularly and eating well – is more of an on-going thing, there’s isn’t really a destination. I’m learning how my lifestyle choices effect my mind and body not just today, but for the rest of my life.

So as part of my research I have been using Instagram. Prior to this I wasn’t a fan of insta at all – I had some very negative preconceptions about the social network and refused to even consider making an account. But now I can definitely say that I am devout user.
