End of Day 2: Introduction to Life Coaching

My 2 day ‘Introduction to Life Coaching’ with The Coaching Academy is now all done and I literally feel like my mind has opened up to a brand new way of thinking, living and being.

The day was split into two parts. During the first half of the day we looked at personal beliefs and what effect they have on our behaviour. In general, beliefs can be categorised in two ways: they either prevent from taking action or they empower us to take action. Most astonishingly, for many of the beliefs that we hold, we aren’t even aware that we have them as they are so deep-rooted and ingrained in us; in short, they are subconscious beliefs that have never (or rarely) been challenged during our lifetime.

As a coach you would work with a client to identify their key beliefs and attitudes–in relation to a specific goal–and you would guide them towards reaching that goal, whilst additionally helping them to overcome any obstacles along the way.

The second part of the day was devoted to understanding how The Coaching Academy operate, and outlining the differences between the various training courses that they provide. It was also an opportunity for all attendees to ask questions about what it takes to become a life coach and to consider if it’s actually a career path worth pursuing.

Personally, this second day of training 100% confirmed that I want to motivate people for the rest of my life. I believe it is one of the best ways that I, personally, can help others, and it’s the perfect way for me to share my passion for self-motivation and personal development.

Tomorrow morning I have a 30-minute phone interview with someone from the Academy and we are going to discuss what training course is most-suited to me, and they also will need to determine if I am suitable for the profession too.

Most of the training is done online but there are many practical learning days as well as ongoing assessments for the entire duration of the programme. Students will receive ongoing support from an appointed, professional coach who will also act as a mentor.

The average amount of time required for study is about 6 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months. However, because I am pretty good at organising my time, I think 6 hours a week is entirely feasible even as a full-time university student. There is also no precise end-date so a course can be completed over a longer period of time rather than in just 6 months. And as I will be living in Paris for half of 2018, I have the option of taking some of the modules when I return to the UK later in the year.

Overall, I feel very ready to embark on this magical journey of discovery. I’m so, so, so excited to acquire some new, lifelong skills, to grow and, above all, to expand my potential in all directions. I can confirm that some incredible, unforgettable, indescribable experiences are already lining up for my future.

Fingers crossed that the phone interview tomorrow goes according to plan!
